From August 24 to August 29, 2024,CDT group have received the Saudi Arabic clients in their company. The aim of these clients visiting is focusing on how to design and distribute the heliport lights to a helipad.Because it is their first time to build this kind of project,and also they need the intelligent control system to be used to their project.
After having long meeting with customers,the engineering technical team had made some proposal to them and also share our design method to them.As we all known that distributing lights on a heliport (specifically a helipad) requires following specific guidelines to ensure visibility and safety. Here's a general guide:
1. Heliport Perimeter Lighting: Use yellow, green, or white lights.
Placement: Place these lights around the edge of the helipad to define its perimeter.
Spacing between lights should generally be around 3 meters (10 feet) apart, but this can vary depending on the size of the helipad.
2. Touchdown and Lift-off Area (TLOF) Lights: Green lights are typically used.
Placement: Install these lights around the edge of the TLOF.
Position them at equal intervals, ensuring they clearly define the area for the pilot.Typically, they are placed at each corner of the TLOF and along the sides.
3. Final Approach and Takeoff Area (FATO) Lights: White or yellow lights are recommended.
Placement:These lights mark the boundaries of the FATO area.
They should be evenly spaced, similar to the TLOF lights, but cover the broader area where the helicopter approaches and takes off.
4. Heliport Flood Lighting:Medium-intensity flood lights.
Placement:Install floodlights around the helipad to illuminate the entire area, especially if the surrounding area is dark. Ensure they don’t create glare for the pilots.
5. Wind Direction Indicator (Wind Cone) Light:
Placement:Place a light to illuminate the windsock, ensuring it is clearly visible at night.
6.Obstruction Lights:Medium Intensity Aircraft Warning Red lights.
Placement: If there are any obstacles (buildings, antennas) near the helipad, place red obstruction lights on top of them.
7. Heliport Rotating Beacon Lighting : White, Yellow and green lights.
Placement:The beacon is usually placed on a tall structure or a tower near the heliport.This ensures the light is visible from a distance and from various angles.
During our meeting,our engineer demonstrated how to connect the lights or if the light is broken or failed and how to replace and maintain the failed port for the light.For the meeting,the clients are more paying close attention for radio wireless control system and intelligent control system.And we provide our proposal to them.After discussed and revised the proposal for several times,finally the customer accepted our plan.
